Ortmeyer began feeling discomfort a few nights ago after a hard workout, said his agent, Mark Witkin. After informing the Rangers, Ortmeyer was sent for tests. The diagnosis was made over the weekend. "They believe it can be treated
NHL Videos with medication," Witkin said. "There has been no statement that his career is in jeopardy."Ortmeyer was only in the hospital for testing and there is no reason to believe at this time that he is facing a life-threatening situation, Witkin said. He added that Ortmeyer hopes to take part in Rangers training camp next month.
On July 17, Ortmeyer, a restricted free agent, re-signed with the Rangers for one season for $552,000. He appeared in 78 games last season, primarily as a third- or fourth-line right wing and penalty-killer. He had five goals and two assists and ranked first among team forwards and seventh among NHL forwards with 75 blocked shots.
He was one of only four Rangers to record a goal against the New Jersey Devils in the playoffs, when New York was swept 4-0 in the first round.
